Fires Burned Across Baltimore Tuesday Morning

BALTIMORE (WJZ) - Several fires burned across Baltimore Tuesday morning after a violent night of riots.

As Mike Schuh reports, a three-alarm blaze in the 2100 block of W. Pratt Street is the largest fire burning Tuesday. Pratt is blocked between Pulaski and Frederick.

The violence started early and stretched long into the night.

Starting with dozens of people throwing rocks, bricks and anything they could find at police near Mondawmin Mall after social media posts called for a protest.

At least 15 officers were injured.

Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said this was just the beginning.

A police car smashed, a CVS looted and then set on fire. Mondawmin Mall looted as well.

Throughout the night, police and firefighters faced off with looters and rioters throwing items at them.

The Mayor said she was "disgusted" with this situation.

The fires as well as some police activity are causing road closures in West Baltimore. Sharon Gibala reports the following closures.

  • W North at Pennsylvania avenues due to police activity.
  • Pennsylvania Ave. at N. Fulton Street is also closed for police activity.
  • Reisterstown Road in between Druid Hill and Liberty Heights is also closed due to police.
  • Area near Mondawmin mall closed due to police activity.
  • Gwynn Falls Parkway in the area of Resiterstown road is closed.
  • A fire at E. Federal and N. Gay streets has also closed the road there.
  • Another vehicle fire reported on Gold St. near Ettings St.
  • Police activity blocking all lanes of E. Fayette St. between Calvert and President St.
