Community Leaders Call For Peace As Gray's Investigation Continues

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Community leaders call for calm as police hand over investigation into Freddie Gray's death to the State's Attorney's office.

Christie Ileto has more.

Gray's friends are asking for tomorrow, Friday, be a day of rest to celebrate and remember Gray.

Gray's family asked for no protests Monday, following Freddie's funeral, but by night fall we know those requests were not respected.

Pleas for 24 hours of peace in riot torn Baltimore to remember Freddie Gray.

"We never had a repast for him."

Juan was Gray's best friend.

"We want it peacefully and respectful for our family, for our community, which has suffered enough tragedy enough losses."

We've seen 11 days of protests after Gray passes from injuries while in police custody.

Tensions exploded Monday into violent  riots swept the city.

"We're proposing a day of rest for Freddie Gray. His day of rest didn't happen because of the riots that took place, so tomorrow we want to give his day of rest," Sean Price said.

Iletro: "What's been the most troubling?"

"What's the most troubling is that people are trying to protest in a peaceful manner, the incident that happened Monday, but preparation for planning up to some of things that happened. It had been in the street and I think we need to do better preparation."

Organizers are laying out plans to remember Freddie Gray peacefully tomorrow, while community leaders mobilize plan for the weekend.

Ileto: "There is a protest planned for Saturday by the same individual who did the protest last Saturday. Are you concerned at all?"

"We're greatly concerned because the challenge is to come up with proactive itinerary for this weekend."
