Md. Group Home Serving At-risk Boys Set To Close In June

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A longtime group home in Frederick will be closing next month.

The Frederick News-Post reports the Maryland Sheriffs' Youth Ranch, which has been serving hundreds of at-risk boys for the past 36 years in Frederick County, will shut its doors on June 19.

The 129-acre ranch takes boys age 10 to 18 from detention centers or group homes within the state's juvenile or social services programs, as a transition to in-home care.

Executive director Mark Grover says the nonprofit group has struggled in the last eight years as the state reduced its reliance on out-of-home care.

Grover says the nine boys currently living on the ranch will be placed elsewhere while most of the staff will lose their jobs.
