Man Arrested In Alaska, Confesses To Killing Rockville Couple

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—A man has confessed to the Mother's Day murder in which a Rockville couple was found dead in their Maryland home.

Marcus Washington has more on the arrest after police found the suspect in Alaska.

On May 10, it was a shocking discover for the family and friends of Richard and Julianne Vilardo.

"I think everybody would have a difficult time making sense of that, because it makes no sense," police said.

Police say the Vilardo's neighbor 31-year-old Scott Tomaszewski was arrested in Alaska after confessing to the Vilardos' murder.

65-year-old Richard, and 67-year-old Julianne, also known as Dick and Jody were found stabbed to death---with multiple stab wounds to their upper bodies.

Police say with a search warrant for a burglary in the Vilardo's neighborhood, they were able to search Scott Tomaszewski's home and his room on the cruise ship in Alaska.

People who live in the area say the Vilardo's have lived in this neighborhood for years, raising children here.

"Fruit of the earth kind of woman, happy, enjoyed life, mellow; appreciated everything she had," one friend said.

Detectives say Tomaszewski was arrested Saturday in Alaska after the cruise ship he was on--- docked in Juneau, Alaska. While the reason behind the murders is unclear, detectives say the evidence shows this was possibly a burglary gone bad.
