Community Makes Dying Woman's Last Wish Come True

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A mother's dying wishes came true. Battling stage four cancer, she was told she has less than two years to live.

Tracey Leong explains the community came together to make her dreams a reality.

The mother of five had two wishes: a family trip to Disney World and a photo shoot before her chemotherapy treatments---two things she couldn't have done without the generosity of others.

Tyrine Johnson spoke with WJZ in January after getting her life-changing news. The 30-year-old mother of five was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer a day before Christmas.

"Seeing her in pain and go through that is not easy," said Tyrine's mother, Jackie Young.

She turned to the public to make her dying wishes come true, to take her family to Disney World and have a special photo shoot. Within days, an enormous amount of support poured in.

"Number one, that many people care. Number two, we were able to raise that much money and number three, that we went," Johnson said.

With kids all under the age of 11, this trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, giving her husband and children memories to hold onto forever.

The overwhelming support Johnson received from the community inspired her to start her own organization, Life Changing Colors.

"I wanted to do something that would motivate, inspire and also teach people about other cancers," she said.

Between treatments and taking care of her family, Johnson makes time to support others battling cancer.

"My sister is strong and she is doing an amazing job," said Erica Bigger.

Johnson is finding strength in her family and strangers touched by her story.

"I will never forget what people have done for me and my family. I will never forget," she said.

Her organization sells inspirational t-shirts and handmade jewelry that can all be ordered online. For more information, click here.
