Police: Former Candidate Stole $17K From School Booster Club
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) -- A former candidate for delegate has been charged with stealing $17,000 from the North County High School booster club he headed to pay for his campaign and other expenses.
The Capital Gazette reports 43-year-old Steven Wyatt of Linthicum was charged with 34 counts of theft of less than $1,000, according to online court records. A summons was filed against Wyatt on Thursday.
Wyatt is the former president of the school's now disbanded Athletic Boosters Association.
An investigation was launched by Anne Arundel County police after school officials discovered numerous unauthorized cash withdrawals dating as far back as February 2014 from a booster club debit card belonging to Wyatt.
According to court records, charges on the same card to a barbecue restaurant coincided with a campaign fundraiser Wyatt held in March.
