Some 350 Businesses Report Damage From Baltimore Riots
BALTIMORE (AP) -- About 350 businesses have sought assistance from the Baltimore Business Recovery Initiative in the aftermath of riots stemming from the death of a man in police custody.
The Daily Record reports that figure is up from about 250 businesses on May 5.
Last week, the corporation announced a fund had been established with the hopes of raising $15 million for businesses that suffered damage or losses during the riots. So far, about $300,000 has been received in pledged donations.
Businesses in the city were damaged by those angered by the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died as a result of injuries he suffered while in Baltimore police custody.
The U.S. Small Business Administration estimated earlier this month that damages to businesses from the riots totaled about $9 million.
