Golfing In High Heels All About Helping A Great Cause

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) -- Trying to hit a golf ball isn't easy, but have you ever tried it wearing high heels? Well, Saturday at Pine Ridge Golf Course, you can do just that.

Ron Matz reports  "High Heels For Hope" is all about helping a great cause.

Sunrise over Pine Ridge--time to tee it up in high heels, the golf balls are waiting.

"People come out to Pine Ridge. They can spend $5 for one ball or get five for $20. The fundraiser has a ladies division and a men's division. We give gift cards to the winners," said Jon Ladd, Executive Director, Classic 5 Golf.

The big winner is House of Ruth Maryland. It's $5 a ball, five balls for $20. All the money raised will go to programs to help victims of intimate partner violence.

"The fundraiser tomorrow raises money for the programs and services that support the victims of intimate partner violence. It allows us the opportunity to provide legal services, counseling and emergency shelter--all the things that help women live safely," said Cheri Parlaman, House of Ruth Maryland.

WJZ's Jessica Kartalija is one of the founders of the event, which has a men's and women division.

SRI Shoe Warehouse donates all the high heels used on Saturday.

"The House of Ruth has been a great partner with us for five years. We're just happy to do this. It's a lot of fun, we all enjoy it," Ladd said.

Ron isn't sure if he enjoys wearing high heels, but it doesn't really matter -- it's all about the cause.

"The first year we said we'll see what happens. Now, its five years later and it's a great event and tons of support. It's exciting to see it grow," said Parlaman.

Saturday's High Heels For Hope runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pine Ridge in Timonium. WJZ's Marcus Washington will emcee the event.
