St. Anthony's Festival This Weekend In Little Italy
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's all about food, fun and friendship, and it's happening this weekend in Little Italy.
Ron Matz has more on the preparations for the feast of St. Anthony.
The festivals in Little Italy always draw big crowds.
This weekend it's the feast of At. Anthony -- a tradition dating back more than 100 hundred years.
"We feel there was a miracle the day of the Great Baltimore Fire," Father Sal Furnari, of St. Leo's Church, said. " They prayed to St. Anthony. The fire was averted and didn't come to Little Italy or St. Leo's."
It's a benefit for St. Leo's Church.
There's a special mass Sunday morning.
"It's a big weekend coming up and it's really important to us," Furnari said. "So we come together this weekend to remember a Saint and hat's important to the hearts of our parishioners."
The festivities include lots of Italian goodies and from Vaccaro's Bakery -- a cannoli-filling contest.
"We have 100 cannolis ready to go for the festival," Maria Vaccaro said, ' but we can always get some more."
"This is family, this is community, this is tradition," Sue Corasanti, a volunteer with the festivals said. " We've got 300 volunteers coming down to do all the food and the games."
"We have a new kids section, there's bingo in the lodge and there's a pasta dinner in the hall," Corasanti added.
Sunday Roma brings a sausage-eating contest.
"If you want to have a good time and good food, meet new friends and being old ones, come down to Little Italy," Furnari added.
From Little Italy with love, a feast for all seasons.
Saturday's festival hours are noon until 8 p.m. and on Sunday it's 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
