Hagerstown Man Gets 1-Year Sentence On Assault Charges
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Hagerstown man has been sentenced to a year behind bars in connection with an incident in which prosecutors say he tailgated and struck a car that was carrying his ex-girlfriend.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that Washington County Circuit Judge Donald Beachley sentenced 23-year-old Fabian Rojas-Cartagena on Thursday to three second-degree assault charges. The sentences are five years each, but they will be served concurrently, with four years suspended on each count.
Rojas-Cartagena had entered an Alford plea, meaning he acknowledged there was sufficient evidence for conviction but did not admit guilt.
Assistant State's Attorney Gina Cirincion says Rojas-Cartagena saw his ex-girlfriend getting into a car with her new boyfriend in January. He followed the car onto Interstate 70 and eventually struck it from behind.
