WEATHER BLOG: Thursday

The current surface map shows high pressure that will retreat off to the east today. Meanwhile, low pressure sliding eastward across northern lower Michigan today will drag a trailing surface cool front across parts of the Midwest and central Plains.

Also associated with this low is the warm front stretching southeastward from northern lower MI to far SE VA and NE NC. The warm front lies just to our southwest right now but does push NEwrd as the day goes on so we do end up into the warm sector this afternoon. There should still be a good deal of clouds around today though with a batch of warm advection showers and a t-storm moving through this morning, then a break, then another pop up shower/t-storm this afternoon as we destabilize as the warm sector pushes in.

Modest instability remains tonight as the aforementioned cool front begins to approach from the west and north, so we do have a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast tonight out ahead of the front and a shower may linger into tomorrow morning before a push of somewhat drier air moves into the region by the afternoon in the wake of the frontal passage. Dewpts. should fall back into the lower 60s by late tomorrow with a light breeze from the northwest. The front hangs up just to our south and east later tomorrow so there's a better chance of a shower lingering anytime southeast of Baltimore.
