Replica Of The Hermione Arrives In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—It may seem like Captain Hook has docked in Baltimore, but not quite.

WJZ's Amy Yensi is at the Inner Harbor with more on the ship that arrived this morning.

After waiting for her arrival at the Harbor, the anticipation pays off.

Hermione, a replica French war-ship is modeled after its 18th century name-sake. The original brought The Marquis de Lafayette to America-a pivotal point in the Revolutionary War.

The ship's arrival in Baltimore celebrates an ally and America's liberty.

Getting onto the ship is like taking a step back in time. Not only is the crew dressed like in the 1700's. They live like the sailors who sailed the original Hermione.

"Some of the crew-members made their own cloths. They wanted to feel exactly like the crew felt when they were sailing the ship in the 1700's," said Deborah Berger, Coordinator, Hermione.

The traveling exhibit is part of sail Baltimore which brings ships from around the country and globe to the Inner Harbor each year.

"It brings history in the modern world. You're looking at modern Baltimore all around you," Susan Gruen said.

The free tours aims to teach the public about history in an interactive way.

"Kind of looks like Captain Hook's ship," one child said.

Captain Hook may not be on board but the voyage keeps drawing the crowds.
