Baltimore City's State's Attorney Will Be Featured In Vogue

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore City State's Attorney is splashed across the pages of a major fashion magazine. Marilyn Mosby, who's prosecuting the six indicted officers in the Freddie Gray case, appears in the July issue of Vogue.

Mary Bubala reports her picture was taken by the most famous photographer in the world.

In a move that cries overexposure to some, Marilyn Mosby has opened up her office and world to Vogue magazine in a feature story in its July issue, now on newsstands.

Mosby talked with Vogue just 11 days after announcing charges against the six officers in the Freddie Gray arrest.

A reporter describes their meeting: "Dressed in a simple pantsuit, sleeveless blouse and not a trace of makeup, Mosby is warm and willing to accept hugs from fellow diners who thank her `for giving us justice.' Otherwise, she is every inch the prosecutor: straight-backed, concise, a portrait of self-control."

The portrait of Mosby comes from the lens of famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, who's known for her work with mega-stars like Meryl Streep and Lady Gaga and for potraits of first ladies and presidents.

Mosby's interview in Vogue camps off a series of unusual and rare public displays for a top prosecutor from the circus to a Prince concert.

"`I'm a fan," she says simply. `Prince hadn't been to Baltimore for 14 years. He called me onstage and what am I going to do, say no?'"

But like that decision, Mosby will likely face criticism for this latest exposure.

"That was probably not the best decision to make, looking back after seeing what happened," said Shana Harris.

But the mayor gave it a thumbs up.

"I always say any attention that we can get on our city---positive attention---is great," said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

And the article does offer a glimpse into the core of Marilyn Mosby. Her mom was young and unmarried when she was born and Mosby comes from a line of police officers; her home was even nicknamed "The Police House."

"`It gives me perspective,' she says. `I know the majority of police officers are outstanding, dedicated, loyal public servants, just like my family.'"

Vogue isn't the only magazine featuring Marilyn Mosby. She's also in this month's Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire.
