Baltimore Symphony Creating New Series With Indie Rock Bands

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is going indie for a new concert series.

The orchestra announced Tuesday it's teaming up with indie rock bands to explore musical connections across genres. The concerts will be broadcast live on radio station WTMD-FM.

The Pulse concert series opens Sept. 24 with the Los Angeles-based band Dawes. On Nov. 12, the series features Baltimore's Wye Oak. In March, the series will feature rock band Dr. Dog from West Grove, Pennsylvania. In April, the series will feature The Lone Bellow from Brooklyn, New York.

In each concert, orchestra members will open with contemporary music, followed by a performance by the headliner band. Then the two groups will perform together on stage.

The concerts will also feature local restaurants and breweries in the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
