3 Dead After Quadruple Shooting Near University Of Maryland Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Brazen gunmen opened fire on a west Baltimore street corner, killing three people and injuring another. Now police are combing the area to hunt down the suspects.

Meghan McCorkell spoke with the police about the investigation.

Police say they believe the gunmen targeted their victims and went after them on this sidewalk.

Investigators say two vans---one white, one burgundy---pulled up to the corner at West Fayette and Poppleton just after 10:30 Tuesday evening. Two gunmen got out and opened fire on a crowd of people.

Three people were killed and another woman was injured.

"I thought it was firecrackers but it ended up being gunshots," said Michelle Keith. "I was scared out of my mind."

Wednesday, remnants of the shooting scene littered the sidewalk as neighbors worry about the constant barrage of bullets on their streets.

"We got kids that's living 'round here that want to play. They can't play without people getting shot up. It's just crazy," said Shakaira Jones.

Investigators have flooded the neighborhood looking for clues. They believe three to four suspects may be involved.

"Our detectives have been working around the clock. We've been able to recover significant evidence, which has helped us in developing substantial leads," said Sgt. Sarah Connolly.

The shooting happened just steps away from the University of Maryland Baltimore campus. No students were involved.

Campus police report another shooting in this same area just days before this incident.

People in the area say they are tired of the spike in violence.

"I think we just need to drop the guns and, you know, reach the peace," said Michael Simpson.

Police say that starts with finding out who pulled the trigger in this crime.

Detectives have not yet identified the victims. They say they are still trying to notify next of kin.

The woman who survived the shooting is in good condition at a local hospital.
