Man Shot In Face By Officer After Pinning Cop In Patrol Car Door

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --A city police officer opens fire on a man, shooting him in the face.

WJZ's Mike Schuh reports live from Baltimore city police headquarters with more on what happened.

A man was hospitalized Monday night after he was shot by a city police officer.

It all started with a traffic stop in southwest Baltimore.

While the suspect is being treated for a gunshot wound, another man is being sought by police.

Shots rang out around 11 p.m. Monday night in the 200 block of Augusta Avenue.

According to our media partner The Baltimore Sun, an officer was conducting a traffic stop when the man reversed his car and pinned the officer in the patrol's car door.

That's when the officer opened fire, striking the man in the face.

The suspect then drove around the corner to the area of Frederick and Augusta Avenues, where he got out of the car and surrendered to officers, telling them he was armed, Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis told the Sun.

Another man in the car fled.

A crowd gathered around the police activity, hindering the police investigating. Two other people were arrested for disorderly conduct, Davis told the Sun.

Dozens of officers escorted the crowd away from the area.

The man shot by police was not fatally wounded and the officer sustained minor injuries.
