Suspicious Death Of Inmate At State Prison Probed
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's State Police say they're investigating the apparent slaying of a state prison inmate found lying on his bunk with a bedsheet around his neck at the maximum-security Western Correctional Institution near Cumberland.
Police say investigators have identified another inmate as a suspect in the death Wednesday of 30-year-old Darrell Murray. Police aren't naming the suspect, since he hasn't been charged.
Prison officials say police were questioning Murray's cellmate.
Police say correctional officers found Murray unresponsive during a head count around 3 a.m. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Murray was serving a nine-year sentence since 2007 for a Baltimore drug conviction.
This is the second apparent slaying of a state prison inmate in less than two weeks. The other was at the neighboring North Branch Correctional Institution.
