Ravens Spending Millions In Improvements At M&T Bank Stadium

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Ravens are going above and beyond to make sure your game day experience is the best in the NFL. The team is spending millions of dollars in improvements at M&T Bank Stadium.

Amy Yensi explains the stadium is going high tech.

The Ravens know smart phones are popular. They want to make sure fans stay connected to the team.

From a sold-out stadium for every home game to excited fans across the city, it's undeniable--Ravens Nation is a loyal crowd.

Keeping the purple passion strong for this and future seasons is a must for Ravens president Dick Cass.

"It's a large investment to buy tickets and come to our games, and we need to keep improving our game day experience to make sure that fans want to keep coming," he said.

That's why fans will notice a few enhancements at M&T Bank Stadium for the 2015 season. The big one--Wi-Fi. The expansive system cost nearly $6.5 million for the team and is completely free for fans.

The new Wi-Fi lets fans share pictures, videos and their game day experience as it's happening.

"I think that would be a great idea. I think being able to see more of the play every time there's a touchdown or a big play, that would be awesome," said one fan. "Make the experience at the stadium that much more pleasurable."

Other upgrades include Free-D, a revolutionary 3-D video system that replays all the action from every angle. The Baltimore Ravens are the first NFL team to have a full 360 degree 3-D feature for fans to enjoy.

This season-ticket holder says the new technology will not distract fans from paying attention to the game.

"Not with the Ravens on the field. Absolutely not. They're going to want to watch that game," she said.

This season at the stadium also means extra security.

Additional surveillance cameras and airport style metal detectors will be added throughout the season. The goal is to keep fans safe and get them in their seats quicker--something football fans say is important for the team's success.

"It's all about that money. Because the fans are always going to have the last word," one fan said. "Cause if they don't show up, there ain't going to be no game."The team president says the extra security has nothing to do with the recent unrest. As for the Wi-Fi--there will be coaches on hand to answer any questions from fans.

The upgrades will be ready in time for the first Ravens preseason game against the New Orleans Saints.
