30K Crabs Served Up In Annapolis For A Great Cause

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—It's billed as the world's biggest crab feast, and for a good reason. More than 2,000 people will head to Annapolis tomorrow for an annual event that raises thousands of dollars for charity.

Ron Matz has more on the all you can eat extravaganza.

If you're craving to crack some crabs, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is the place to be. The Rotary Club of Annapolis will serve up 30,000 crustaceans to more than 2,000 people on Friday.

"The crabs are the stars of the show and they're provided by Shoreline Seafood in Severna Park," said Jim Campbell, Rotart Crab Feast Chairman.

The event raises money for more than 30 charities in Anne Arundel County.

"We've raised more than one million dollars since we started the crab feast in 1946. Last year alone we raised over $62-thousand that was distributed to 29 local non-profit charities," said Sue Webe, Crab Feast Co-chair.

About 20-thousand pounds of food waste will be collected at the event to be designated for recycling.

"This year we're in partnership with Annapolis Green and Leonard Paper from Baltimore and Veterans Compost," Campbell says.  "All of our material with the exception of water bottles and plastic glassware is compostable, so what's not compostable will be recycled.  We'll have no waste, nothing will go to a landfill."

Tomorrow's crab feast runs from 5:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $65 dollars for adults and just $20 dollars for children ages 3 to 12.
