Md. Comptroller To Promote Sales Tax-free Week

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- Marylanders are about to get a weeklong reprieve from sales taxes on certain purchases, and the state's chief tax collector wants shoppers to know about it.

Comptroller Peter Franchot plans to visit a children's clothing store in Bethesda and a mall in Waldorf on Friday to promote Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week.

The weeklong break from sales taxes runs from Sunday through Aug. 15. It applies to clothing and shoes priced at $100 or less. The promotion is timed to coincide with back-to-school shopping.
