WEATHER BLOG: Awesome August Day

The wonderful weather we have been experiencing will continue into the weekend as a weak area of high pressure noses down from Canada. This is also responsible for the low humidity we will experience as well. Temperatures both days will be in the middle 80s with dew points in the low 60s both days.

By Monday, high pressure will slide north and east of the region, and winds will shift out of the south-southeast. This will increase the humidity significantly (dew points into the low 70s). A cold front will approach from the west during the afternoon, spreading strong slow moving thunderstorms through PA. These storms should reach the region by the late afternoon, and the biggest threat will be extremely heavy rain and perhaps some gusty winds. The front will continue to press eastward through PA overnight, bringing very heavy, drenching rain and thunderstorms to the region. Model output is already illustrating this well, with the GFS and Euro both printing out over 1" of rain for the region during this period.

The front will push east of the area by Tuesday afternoon, with perhaps some thunderstorms still ongoing during the morning hours. Humidity will also drop this day after the front passes. A deep upper trough will then settle over the region for the middle and end of the week, with refreshing temperatures for mid August- mainly in the 80s with little to no humidity!
