Bill Ripken On Tough Free Agent Decisions For O's

MLB Network's Bill Ripken joined the Scott Garceau Show to talk about the Orioles upcoming free agents.

With some key pieces for the Orioles such as Matt Wieters, Wei-Yin Chen and Chris Davis set to become free agents; the Orioles have some difficult decisions. Scott asked Bill what he thinks the market for Chris Davis will be, "I'm thinking there will be a large market and probably Baltimore is not included in that market. Even though what he did last year with it being a big disappointment, you cant argue with the amount of balls he's hitting into the cheap seats. With power being down and the trend in baseball becoming its 'okay' to strike out...I don't know if Houston would be in the market to spend that much money but wouldn't he certainly fit the bill? As far as their philosophy goes swing hard three times and if you hit one great, if you don't come back and see if the next guy does it."

Scott and Terry later asked Bill if he had to choose one player to resign, who would he pick? "I like to think you lean a little more towards Chen on this one. You look at the dependability and the Buck Showalter type of pitcher, he's not a number one per say but I think Buck really likes that guy and if you're going to let free agents walk I would do my best to try and keep a starting pitcher especially one that has been as consistent as Chen."
