2 Victims Shot, Including On-Duty City Firefighter In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Baltimore Police are investigating a shooting that left two people injured, including a firefighter on Friday afternoon.

This shooting comes one day after three teenagers are shot and killed Thursday night.

WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren has the latest.

Police are on the hunt for a man they say shot a 15-year veteran of the Baltimore City Fire Department and a 65-year-old man he was with on Friday.

It happened in the 3900 block of W. Garrison Boulevard at Liberty Heights Ave. when police say the suspect got into an apparent fight at a cell phone store. Detectives say the suspect then walked into a busy intersection and opened fire on two people.

Police say the firefighter was 43-years-old and was shot in the hand and leg by the suspect. His injuries appear to be non -life threatening.

The cell phone store owner tells WJZ that at no time were the victims inside the store on Friday.

The president of the Baltimore City Firefighters Union Local 734 calls the shooting a "cowardly act" in a statement and pleaded for witnesses to come forward.

"We fully intend on exhausting every resource that we have, every relationship we have with this community, to identify him and bring him to justice," said Interim Commissioner Kevin Davis.

Davis says after shooting the firefighter, the suspect then turns his gun and shoots a 65-year-old man. His current condition is unknown at this time.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his 20's, 5'11", slim build , with no facial hair.

He was last seen running down Liberty Heights on foot.

Baltimore is in the midst of one its bloodiest summers ever. Just hours before the firefighter being shot, three teenagers were shot on Willow Avenue just before midnight.

Two of the victims were armed with handguns, police said.

A woman who claimed to be the sister of one of the victims threatened WJZ at the scene.

"Do you wanna die? Do you wanna die?" the woman said, as cameras were rolling.

Police are continuing to investigate all of these open cases. Anyone with any information is asked to call police immediately.
