Ben McDonald On An Exciting Weekend Of Orioles Baseball

Ben McDonald is a former Orioles pitcher who now does color commentating for Orioles broadcasts on 105.7 The Fan.

Ben joined Ed and Steve to talk about an exciting weekend of Orioles baseball where they have won 3 straight against the A's.

Ed asked Ben how he would pitch to first baseman Chris Davis during his current hot streak at the plate. Ben noted that Davis is capable of hitting any pitch out of the ball park but, "if you can get ahead of him then you can elevate fastballs, if you have a plus fastball. He's going to strike out that's what he does, but he also will hit close to 40 home runs as well and that's really valuable."

Steve asked Ben about what Kevin Gausman needs to do to take the next step in his development as a starting pitcher in the majors. Ben acknowledged that Gausman has a terrific arsenal of pitches to work with, "the stuff is off the charts, its takes a while to figure it out, this game is all about making adjustments, for him its going to be innings and experience that take him to the next level."

Ben went on to discuss Chris Davis' walk off home run from this pat weekend's series against the Oakland A's, the possibility of Zach Britton moving to the starting rotation next season, and Wei Yen Chen's market as he heads into free agency this off season following his best season as a professional.
