Storms Sweep Across Md. Leaving Some Flooded In Harford Co.

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—Powerful storms sweep across the state on Thursday night leaving some in Harford County flooded.

Emergency crews had at least 8 water rescues from drivers trying to make it through high water. They tell WJZ some roads caved in due to the heavy rain, while some businesses are flooded out.

WJZ's Rick Ritter has the latest.

Submerged in water as heavy rain pounds parts of Harford County, where dire situations are a dime a dozen.

"We've been running rescues steady for the past two hours, just because people aren't turning around," said John Terrell, Captain of the Joppa Magnolia Fire Company.

Like Harry Klataska and his mother whose car got stuck sturck in flooded waters.

"My foot was on the ground, it started getting wet and I said what is this, and I thought it was the window, but I saw the car was flooding," said Harry.

It was one of at least eight water rescues throughout the county.

Like crews weren't busy enough. Video shows creeks and lakes overflowing causing a nightmare for traffic on Thursday.

"We've already had sections of road washing away in Harford County from what I've been told," said Terrell.

But it doesn't stop there. Nearby businesses deal with the wrath of Mother Nature, forcing them to clean up the wet mess and close early.

Officials attribute these rescues to drivers not listening to warnings and still trying to make it through high waters.

There have been no reports of any injures during Thursday night's incidents.

Harford County emergency crews say they responded to close to 20 storms related calls in just a few hours.
