Md. National Guard Soldier Killed In I-695 Crash

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—A New Jersey man has died following a two-car crash in Baltimore County on Friday morning.

It happened around 1:24 a.m. on I-695 near Falls Road.

According to police, a 1997 Lexus was traveling westbound on I-695 when the driver lost control and collided with a 2011 Chevrolet .

Police say the driver of the Lexus, 23-year-old Devon J. Pendergrass, of Washington Township, New Jersey, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger of the Lexus was injured in the crash. They were transported to Sinai Hospital and treated for their injuries.

The driver of the Chevy was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.

According to our media partner The Baltimore Sun, Pendergrass served in the Maryland National Guard's 29th Military Police Company.

Pendergrass was an undergraduate in the criminal justice program at University of Baltimore, a spokesperson with the school tells the Sun.

The outerloop of I-695 was shut down for approximately 3.5 hours while authorities conducted their investigation.
