Man Accused Of Choking Woman In Cumberland

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Police say a Cumberland man choked a female acquaintance and slammed her to the ground after stealing her cellphone during an argument.

Cumberland police say 25-year-old Gerald Moore was charged with first- and second-degree assault and theft after the fight on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the woman told officers that Moore hit her in the face and took her cellphone. She told police that she chased him, at which point he grabbed her by the throat, threw her to the ground and began choking her.

Online court records show Moore was released on his own recognizance. No attorney is listed for him.
