Illegal Drone Delivery To Inmates Gets Foiled By Police

Cresaptown, Md. (WJZ) -- Police have stopped a drone delivery heading inside a western Maryland Prison.

Alex DeMetrick reports.

The drone carrying illegal material was found on Saturday in Cresaptown close to Cumberland outside the Patuxent Institution.

Two men were spotted in a car on a side road next to the prison. Inside the car was the drone, a narcotic called "spice," tobacco and a pornographic DVD.

A loaded gun was also seized.

"We are struggling to keep up with this type of technology," said Stephen Moyer, secretary of Public Safety and Corrections at the prison.

While this may be the first drone delivery stopped, officials note that others may have gone undetected.

"We believe it's occurring more times than we could possibly know," said Moyer.

The two suspects in this incident are now in jail, and the inmate believed to be the inside man is also facing charges.
