1.6M Gallons Of Sewer Water Overflow Into Patuxent River

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- The Howard County Health Department says a ruptured sewer main allowed 1.6 million gallons of sewer water to overflow in the Patuxent River.

Officials say on Friday, a sinkhole developed on North Second Street. Crews found that a 12-inch force sewer main broke.

Authorities say the break was repaired in about eight hours.

Residents are urged to stay away from the site. Signs warning about sanitary overflow have been posted.
