In TV Shooting, A Volatile, Angry Man `Waiting To Go BOOM'

MONETA, Va. (WJZ) -- A live interview on a Virginia television station ends in horror when a former employee guns down a reporter and photographer in cold blood.

Pat Warren with a closer look at Vester Flanagan.

Vester Flanagan, AKA Bryce Williams, was a powder keg that apparently had a fuse burning for years.

Disturbing video of a man firing a gun is the opening of a collection of news reports posted by Vester Flanagan on YouTube in 2013.

Flanagan's career in broadcasting dates back to 1993 when he interned at a CBS-owned station in San Francisco.

Before working at WDBJ, Flanagan filed a lawsuit in 1999 against Sinclair broadcasting station WTWC in Tallahassee for discrimination.

In court documents filed by WTWC in response to Flanagan's lawsuit, the station denied any kind of discrimination, citing poor performance, misbehavior with regards to co-workers, failure to respond to corrective recommendations on his performance, refusal to follow directions, use of profanity and budgetary reasons. The station decided in November of that year an anchor would have to be discharged.

Charges of discrimination were dismissed by the EEOC.

In a statement to WJZ, Hunt Valley-based Sinclair says all issues with Mr. Flanagan were resolved in 2000.

Race was also a topic that was mentioned in his final communication.

In a fax believed to be sent Wednesday morning by Flanagan to ABC News, Flanagan reportedly stated: "I've been a human powder keg for a while, just waiting to go BOOM!!!!"
