Tens Of Thousands Expected As Maryland State Fair Kicks Off

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) -- The Maryland State Fair is in full swing at the the fairgrounds in Timonium. Tens of thousands of people are expected over the next 11 days.

From high above to on the ground, it's wall to wall of attractions at the Maryland State Fair.

For Becky Brashear, it's her first year running the show.

"We want all the residents of this great state to take ownership in the Maryland State Fair," said Brashear.

Others waste no time sliding in. Hours into Friday, families try and hit as many rides as possible.

Little ones always love the cars. A little older, and you're looking for prizes.

When it's time to cool off, there's not a bad choice for snacks.

By Labor Day, Brashear expects 400,000 people to have strolled through the fairgrounds.

"We call it the 11 best days of summer, obviously," she said. "We call it a 'faircation.'"

Excitement for all that leaves some worn out.

Admission for the fair is $8 for adults and $3 for children. Kids 5 and under get in for free. Doors are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Parking on fairgrounds is $5 and free parking at the Park and Ride on Deereco Road is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are also encouraged to use the Light Rail, with an accessible stop at the Cow Palace Gate.

Have fun, and don't forget send your fair pictures to WJZ's Facebook page!
