Officials: Bowie Resident May Have West Nile Virus
BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- Officials say a Bowie resident may have contracted West Nile virus.
City officials say the Maryland Department of Agriculture notified them Wednesday that a resident may have contracted the disease. As of Thursday the case had not been confirmed and it is unknown where the individual may have come in contact with the infected mosquito.
Officials say because the resident lives in the Somerset neighborhood, all streets in the area and nearby streets will be sprayed for mosquitoes on Tuesday.
The virus has been detected in mosquito pools in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and other parts of Prince George's County, in addition to Bowie.
Bowie officials say the best way to avoid getting West Nile Virus is to eliminate places where mosquitoes breed and to apply insect repellant.
