2 Killed, 5 Injured In Shootings As DC Deploys More Police
WASHINGTON (AP) -- As District of Columbia police deployed more officers to confront a spike in violent crime, shootings have left two more people dead and at least five injured.
The fatal shootings Friday night brought D.C.'s homicide count to 105. That's the same number of homicides in all of 2014, with four months left in 2015.
Police say gunfire erupted in several areas Friday night. Two men were killed and one was wounded in a shooting at about 11:45 p.m. on B Street in southeast Washington. Police identified the two men who were killed as 26-year-old Omoni Johnson of northeast Washington and 21-year-old Shaheed James of Clinton, Maryland. The third shooting victim was expected to survive.
A few minutes earlier, a youth was shot on Sixth Place in northeast Washington near Metro's red line tracks and Catholic University. Shootings were also reported near South Capitol Street, near Anacostia High School and in northwest near Georgia Avenue.
