Jeremy Conn: Congratulations Jake

Jake Arrieta threw the first no hitter of his career last night. He is having an unbelievable season and has a very good chance of being the National League CY Young winner this year. Jake is 17-6 with a 2.11 ERA and he has 190 strikeouts. After last night's no hitter I saw a wide variety of messages regarding the Orioles trading him.

Some people called it one of the worst trades in recent memory. The Orioles traded Arrieta and Pedro Strop for Scott Feldman. Feldman finished his rental period here in Baltimore and signed a 4 year 40 million dollar deal with the Astros. Arrieta went on to figure out how to pitch and become one of the best pitchers in the National League. I have no argument that the trade ended up being terrible, but there weren't a lot of people screaming to keep Jake when he was here. In fact, the majority were yelling get rid of that bum and take ole crooked hat with him. When Jake was traded he had an ERA over 7, the year before that it was over 6. He never pitched great in an Orioles uniform.

I for one am happy for Jake. I don't believe he would have ever been successful here, but somehow, someway he has righted the ship and found a home in Chicago. Good for him. Many people throughout the Orioles organization said that Jake had the best stuff in the organization. Most of you out there have to stop kidding yourself, you didn't want him when he was here, so why change your tune now.
