18th Child Dies From Heatstroke In U.S. In 2015

EDGEMERE, Md. (WJZ) – A 13-month-old Maryland girl died from heatstroke after being left in a car by her foster mother, bringing the total number of heat-related deaths of children in the U.S. to 18 so far this year.

Maryland ranks No. 14 in the nation with a total of 14 fatalities since 1998.

The average number of child heatstroke deaths in vehicles is 37 per year, which is about one every nine days.

KidsAndCars, the national child safety organization dedicated solely to keeping children safe in and around vehicles, is encouraging parents and guardians to use their resources to keep their children safe.
