U.S. Probe Sought Of Schemes Targeting Lead Paint Survivors

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two members of Congress are asking the Justice Department to investigate predatory financial schemes that target victims of lead point poisoning.

Democrats Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and Louise Slaughter of New York sent a letter Tuesday to Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking the department look into companies that buy structured financial settlements from lead poisoning victims for a small fraction of their worth.

The lawmakers made the request after an article in The Washington Post detailed how victims of lead paint poisoning, many of whom suffer cognitive disabilities are not getting counseling and representation when selling their settlements.
