Authorities Investigating After Baltimore Officer Found Dead

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—City police are investigating the death of one of their own after a man was found face down in the water on Tuesday.

Police say they were conducting a well-being check around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday in the 500 block of Harborview Drive.

At the scene, they found 34-year-old Officer Prashanth Davis laying facing down in the water between a boat and the dock. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Davis was an active member of the Baltimore Police Department, serving  on the force for seven years.

"This is a very sad day for the men and women of the Baltimore Police Department," said Interim Commissioner Kevin Davis. "On behalf of the entire agency, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of Officer Prashat Davis."

Police say the death appears to be accidental.

A spokesperson for the police department says Officer Davis lived in a boat in the area.
