Police: Man Sets Mattress On Fire, Faces Arson Charges
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Hagerstown man is facing arson-related charges after police say he set a mattress on fire while his 2-year-old child was at home and five residents were in an adjoining apartment.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that Maryland State Police responded to the apartment Tuesday night to conduct a welfare check and found 36-year-old James Andrew
Brown in a bedroom with a bed on fire. Police arrested Brown and took him to a hospital for evaluation. He was later placed in jail.
Volunteer firefighters put out the fire, which was contained to the mattress.
Brown is charged with one count of malicious burning and six counts of reckless endangerment. Online jail records do not indicate if Brown has an attorney to comment on the charges.
