Meghan Schlisler fights back tears as she remembers the kid who was once her next door neighbor in Annapolis.

Colin Brough was killed in an overnight shooting at Northern Arizona University's Flagstaff campus.

Police say it started with confrontation among two groups of students, one was part of a fraternity and then escalated quickly.

"One of our students Stephen Jones, 18-years-old produced handgun and shot 4 of other students," said Chief Greg Fowler, NAU police.

Brough was one of those students and died as a result.

Jones--whose Instagram account shows him posing with several guns--gave up his weapon when they arrived on scene.

"Everything calmed down for a few minutes, as our officers arrived they were able to take him in custody," Chief Fowler said.

Old neighbors of the Brough family here in Annapolis had nothing but great things to say about Colin, adding that the news, hit them hard.

"I was shocked, it was very sad, I feel for the parents and his surviving brothers," said former neighbor, Barbara Schlisler.

The teen attended Broadneck High School in Annapolis for his freshmen and sophomore years, where he even played lacrosse and was an honor roll student.

"Colin was a nice kid, typical teenager, very popular with local teens," Schlisler said.

Three other students were injured in the Arizona shooting, no word on their condition.

Police say the suspect is now being charged with first degree homicide.

Hours after this shooting a Texas Southern University student is killed, and another injured after shooting in the parking lot of an off-campus housing facility.

Both shootings come on the same day President Obama visited an Oregon community college where nine people were shot and killed just last week.
