Could Nacho Mama's Be Leaving Canton?

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--A fierce leasing debate between landlord and tenant could force one of the city's most popular restaurants out of Baltimore.

The future of Nacho Mama's in Canton is in limbo.

Gigi Barnett has details on a campaign that allows customers to choose a possible new location.

It's Elvis decorations, grande nachos, hubcap margaritas.

Nacho Mama's Mexican restaurant sits prominently in Canton's O'Donnell Square and has been there for 22 years.

But now a lease dispute could usher the popular hangout spot out of the neighborhood it helped revitalize.

The building's landlord wants co-owners Jackie McCusker and Phil Gelso  to move two doors down to a building that's been vacant for nearly a decade.

The co-owners say they've tried to reason with their landlord but hey're at an impasse.

So, the Nacho Mama owners are scouting new places, asking customers to name the spot they should go.

McCusker says hundreds have reached out saying a Nacho Mamas would be perfect in their neighborhood.

But if Nacho Mama's leaves, its past and Elvis statues  go, too.

If both sides can't come to an agreement Nacho Mamas will have to move by August 2016.

WJZ contacted the landlord, he didn't want to go on camera, but he did say that he isn't trying to push Nacho Mama's out of O'Donnell Square.
