Maryland Governor Creates Government Performance Office

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Larry Hogan has formed a new office to find ways of making state agencies more efficient.

Hogan announced the Governor's Office of Performance Improvement on Friday. He has named Luis Luna, a former assistant administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to be its director.

The governor says the office will use performance metrics to determine how efficiently and effectively state agencies deliver their services. Hogan says the office will create clear metrics, collect data and conduct analysis on agency performance to make state government as productive, accountable and transparent as possible.

It will make recommendations on how agencies can make improvements over time.

Luna also has worked as deputy administrator of the U.S. Agriculture Department. He also has been vice president of corporate communications for Perdue Farms.
