Md. Transportation Officials Conducting "Simulated Terrorist Attack" Drill This Weekend

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Transportation officials in Maryland are conducting an emergency response exercise simulating a terrorist attack on the bus and subway in Baltimore.

The Maryland Department of Transportation says the drill will begin Saturday at 9 p.m. and last through Sunday at 3 a.m. Officials say the exercise will take place near the State Center Metro Subway station and involve more than 100 first responders. Transportation employees will portray injured passengers.

Officials say the subway station will remain open and that service will not be impacted but riders on four bus lines can expect minor diversions in the area.

Officials say the exercise is designed to allow transit and fire employees as well as police and the American Red Cross to practice multi-jurisdictional coordination.
