Baltimore Co. Man Faces Child Porn, Sexual Abuse Charges

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. (WJZ) -- It's one of the most disturbing child porn cases investigators say they've ever seen. Now a Randallstown man is under arrest, accused of victimizing children.

Meghan McCorkell has more as police search for additional victims.

Police believe Kenneth Smith had sexual contact with at least one young child and say he could have had many more victims.

Behind one of the doors of a Randallstown apartment complex, police made a difficult discovery.

"In 20 years of law enforcement, this is absolutely the most disturbing case that I've ever seen," said Cpl. John Wachter.

There were thousands of images of young children being sexually victimized.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kenneth Smith is now behind bars, facing child porn charges.

"It's disgusting, treacherous. It's the devil's work," said one.

It all started when investigators got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a pornographic image of a young child uploaded from a home on McChurch Court.

Investigators that served a bench warrant at the Randallstown apartment confiscated a laptop, a tablet and several thumb drives. On them were thousands of images of horrible things being done to children. Police believe Smith had a sexual encounter with at least one child, most likely more.

"We're not talking about 14, 15, 16, 17-year-olds. It's younger than that and it's one of the things that makes this really disturbing," Wachter said.

The news has shocked neighbors at Smith's apartment complex, which is across the street from both a daycare and Randallstown Elementary School.

"To actually see him all the time and it's like, `Wow. I said hi how many times?' He's been behind me in line getting lottery tickets at Seven-11," said neighbor Tim Satonica.

Investigators are trying to determine how Smith came in contact with children. He's now being held without bail on 13 charges.

Investigators are trying to locate more victims and say the case could span beyond the state of Maryland.

Anyone with information is asked to call Baltimore County police.
