WEATHER BLOG: Coldest Night Of The Season

Just an amazing set-up across the Northeast with a huge trough of cold air firmly in place today. The cold air and warm lakes are setting off some nice early season snows downwind of the Great lakes with more broad first flakes and dustings elsewhere. A few snow flakes were even reported in western Maryland earlier today. As we move into the overnight hours, a cold high pressure system will settle into the mid-Atlantic, bringing the coldest night of the season. This will be a sure end to the growing season for much of the area. The exception will probably be most plants within the city. A freeze warning is in effect tonight at midnight through 9AM Monday. The high will move east and south Monday and Tuesday shifting our winds out of the south. This will allow temperatures to moderate by the middle of the week.
