Thousands Meet Ray Lewis At Baltimore Book Signing

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- He's a Baltimore icon, and now, he's an author, too.

Jessica Kartalija with how former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis took time Thursday to meet fans and sign thousands of books.

The book, "I Feel Like Going On," tells the story of his life, all the way up through his recent visit with Baltimore students following the April riots.

At the Inner Harbor, fans arrive before dawn to meet Ray Lewis. Early? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

"He's an icon, and I'm really proud of him," said one fan.

Some, playing hooky.

"Why did he say you could miss school?" Jessica asked.

"So we could see Dr. Lewis," one young fan said.

Ray, stirring a lot of emotions.

The line? You had to see it to believe it.

Of course, we know Ray's loved here in Baltimore. But the line, it stretched all the way across the top floor of the Barnes and Noble.

"What are you going to do with all of these books" Jessica asked.

"Christmas gifts. Keep one for myself," one fan said.

To Charm City, he's inspiring.

"Baltimore needs something good to hang onto these days, and I think if you can hang on to Ray Lewis, that's something special," one fan said.

"He's my idol, and I got his tattoo after they won the Super Bowl and how much I love him," another fan said.

"He's an inspiration to all, and for the way society is, they need a role model," said another fan.

So, what are fans looking forward to reading most?

"Some of the background information about his family. Things that we don't really know about or we haven't heard in the news," one fan said.

After the book signing at the Inner Harbor, Ray went to Bel Air to met fans there. They, too, had been waiting since early Thursday morning to see him.

Ray currently works as an analyst on ESPN.
