Baltimore Gas Prices Falling Below The $2 Mark

BALTIMOER (WJZ) -- For the first time in more than six years, gas prices are falling below the $2 mark. Analysts say those costs may keep going down.

Meghan McCorkell went on the hunt for the cheapest price.

The last time gas prices fell under $2 a gallon was back in 2009. Now, we are starting to see that again.

With gas prices plummeting, people are flocking to the pump.

"Gas prices have you parking your car after a while," one man said.

Here in Maryland, the average for a gallon of regular is now $2.12. That's compared to $2.93 this time last year.

Some service stations--dropping below the $2 mark.

So which places in the city have the cheapest prices? Meghan found out.

Number one--the Eagle Mart gas station at Pulaski Highway and Ellwood. If you pay cash, you're only shelling out $1.91 a gallon.

"When I see that price, I've got to stop," one man said.

"I had to see it for myself. I had to wait in line a long time to do it," said one woman.

The bargain price--leading to some backups--but the owner says he'll keep the numbers falling.

"I want to keep my customers keep coming, you know? I don't want to lose my volume," said Shah Hamdani, Eagle Mart owner.

Up second--the Exxon station on West Northern Parkway and Park Heights, where it's $1.97 a gallon.

"You can pay less to fill up," said one woman.

And tied for second, also at $1.97, another Eagle Mart--this one at East Northern Parkway and McClean.

"I love it. I can put ten in my tank and fill it up," a woman said.

And analysts have more news for drivers to love.

"We're anticipating prices to continue falling, bearing any disruptions to the supply of oil or a jump in oil prices," said Christine Delise, AAA Mid-Atlantic.

"I remember when it was 29 cents," said one man.

While we may never go that low again, this relief is a welcome sight.

The price drop comes at a great time, with Thanksgiving just weeks away.

Analysts say the falling gas prices are due to a drop in crude oil prices and the switch over to a winter gas blend.
