South Korean Group Visiting Western Maryland In Jobs Effort

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Washington County officials are welcoming their counterparts from South Korea as part of an effort to bring new jobs to western Maryland.

The delegation from Jangheung County arrives Thursday. Their daylong tour includes a visit to Potomac Edison's new training facility for line workers in Williamsport.

County officials say they hope the tour will advance plans for a potential business opportunity involving two firms that could bring more than 100 jobs to the region. They say the enterprise would involve food-processing on a 200-acre site in southern Washington County.

Four Washington County officials visited South Korea last month. They say the relationship that began under the administration of former governor Martin O'Malley has deepened with help from Gov. Larry Hogan. Hogan's wife is of South Korean descent.
