2 Baltimore Businesses Make Oprah's Favorite Things List

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's the list of all lists -- every year Oprah comes out with a list of her favorite things.

Jessica Kartalija reports this year's top honors go to two Baltimore businesses.

It's the calm before the  holiday storm at Words with Boards, the company was just named one of Oprah's favorite things.

"It's so exciting!' said Kim Strassner, of Words with Boards. "It's like 'you get a board' and 'you get a board!'"

The company in the heart of Charm City personalizes cutting board -- and business is growing.

"We are proud that we can make it here, we can make it by hand," said Mike Pararas, of Words with Boards. "We know everybody who makes it and that's rewarding."

Also celebrating the honor -- Pappas crabcakes.

"Know why they are the best crabcake? You know why they are -- It's Baltimore," said Oprah.

The former TV host, who worked right here at WJZ, has 87 items on her list of favorites this year.

Kartalija: What do you think it does for a Baltimore business like yours?

"It's validation for all of our hard work over the last three years that we are getting national attention, it's putting us on the map," said Strassner.

And getting Oprah's stamp of approval.

"This kind of press, it doesn't happen to very many people and very often, so  we are very fortunate and we know that and we're looking forward to it," said Pararas.
