Brian McFarland On The Ravens Salary Cap Issues This Season And Beyond

Brian McFarland covers the Ravens salary cap and organizational analysis for Russell Street Report.

Brian joined Ed and Steve to talk about the Ravens cap this year and in the future.

Steve asked Brian about the dead money counting against the Ravens salary cap. Brian noted that some of the contracts that still count against the salary cap were hard to see coming, "obviously the Ray Rice situation is something you couldn't foresee play out. There is a lot of dead money but their is also a lot of heavy contracts that have weighed them down."

Ed asked Brian how much the salary cap will increase to next season. Brian acknowledged that the increase should jump to $153 million, "every little bit helps. Everything I've seen indicates that the cap will increase by $10 million which is what it has done each of the last couple of seasons. That will bring it up to $153 million."

Brian went on to discuss the effect of a player retiring on a team's salary cap, as well as what a realistic new contract and cap number would look like for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
