Former Gov. Ehrlich Weighs In On Martin O'Malley, Promotes New Book

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--With 17 candidates running to be the next president of the United States there are many voices talking about our country's future.

Today, another voice chimes in--a former Maryland governor--but not the one currently running for office.

WJZ's Mary Bubala has more.

With presidential politics on his mind, former republican Governor Bob Ehrlich stopped by WJZ today as he promotes his new book called "Turning Point."

The governor's 3rd book is a collection of his essays and analysis from the past decade with  insight into the current political landscape, including the appeal of Ben Carson and Donald Trump.

"People want after these 8 years they do want plain talking, they do want tough talking, they do want tough acting," said Ehrlich.

The former governor tells WJZ he thought about getting back into politics this year.

He left office back in 2006 after losing to democrat Martin O'Malley.

Ehrlich flirted with running for the GOP nomination, but instead is watching his political nemesis try to get to the White House.

Bubala: "What do you think of O'Malley so far with his presidential race?"

"There's no angle for me to criticize Martin O'Malley, I am very concerned about a democrat being elected president," said Ehrlich. "The last thing we need to do now is go for option weak - w e a k - we've had that for eight years our culture has paid a high price, our country has paid a high price."

The former governor would not rule out a run for higher office sometime in the future.  He still works at a law firm and his book tour kicks off next weekend.

Ehrlich also says he is thrilled that current Governor Hogan beat cancer with such grace and determination.
